Custom PVC Coated Kettle Bells | Contact Plastics

Custom Sports Products for Low to Medium Volumes

Many customers approach Contact Plastics with innovative product ideas aimed at niche markets where production volumes may be fewer than 100 units per month. As discussed in our manufacturing spectrum article, every product has an ideal manufacturing process. In this case, the client wanted to introduce a unique double-handle kettle bell to the fitness market with production volumes as low as 80 units per month.

The Contact Plastics design studio supported the client with product conceptualisation, technical drawings, and 3D renderings. These resources allowed the customer to obtain accurate pricing from a foundry for the metal components. Contact Plastics also assisted with the patent application process, using detailed technical drawings to clearly highlight the product’s patented features.

Once the steel kettle bells were cast, they were sent to Contact Plastics where they were dip moulded with a durable, high-quality PVC coating available in a range of colours. The final stage involved pad printing, enabling branding, logos, and product markings to be applied to the finished kettle bells.

Dip Moulding: An Ideal Process for Low, Medium and High Volumes

At Contact Plastics, we have specialised in dip moulding and plastic coating services for over 40 years. Dip moulding is an often overlooked manufacturing technique capable of producing products with excellent durability, visual appeal, and consistent quality.

For the double-handle kettle bell, the dip moulding process created an attractive commercial product with numerous customisation and personalisation options. From the outset, Contact Plastics could offer immediate access to more than 40 colours and textures, ranging from glossy reds to rugged sand-blasted greys.

One of the key advantages of dip moulding is that very little upfront tooling is required. In this project, the customer simply supplied the steel kettle bells and Contact Plastics applied the PVC coating using the dip moulding process, eliminating the need for expensive moulds or specialised production equipment.
